Firestarter
Phantasia Press, 1980
This is probably one of the most valuable limited edition Stephen King books available. Known as the "Asbestos Firestarter", 26 lettered copies were made wrapped in some aluminium-coated cloth! This one is usually sold for $10,000 or even more... That's four zeros, baby! You won't find this one at K-Mart! Another fine product by Phantasia Press. This one is though a bit more easy to find - depending on how you define "easy"! - 725 signed and numbered copies, cased in a blue slip, and with a cover illustrated by the godly Michael Whelan (The Gunslinger).
Cujo
Mysterious Press, 1981

"Down, boy! Play dead! Be dead!!!" (wait... wasn't that a line in the Pet Semetary movie?) - if you own this book, don't play catch with it, especially not with a totally insane Saint Bernard's dog...

The book about the carnivorous canine was printed in 750 numbered copies and 26 lettered.

Dustjacket
Danse Macabre
Everest House, 1981

Like any other fiction novel written by Stephen King, his first non-fiction book about the horror genre was released as a limited edition book. Danse Macabre was printed in 250 limited copies, and 15 lettered (A-O). Looks pretty cool to me.

Book
The Gunslinger
Donald M. Grant, 1982

Somehow I feel that this is one of the most famous King ltd's since it was the only edition of this book, until the Plume release in 1988. Anyway, the first trade edition of 10,000 copies was offered at the low price of $20! Can you believe it?! Another second trade edition of 10,000 copies were also printed in addition to the 500 numbered and 35 lettered copies. Number one on every collectors want list? The third edition is available now!

The Plant
Philtrum Press, 1982-85

While other people send out christmas cards, Mr King sent out chunks of a never before seen story to his 200 closest friends. And it was a pretty cool story, I must say after reading it!

The Plant part one (the image) was shipped out in 1982, part two in 1983 and part three in 1985. The two latter are also available in lettered editions of 26 copies each.

As the theme of the story became too close to Little Shop Of Horrors, King stopped writing it, and eventhough it wasn't likely that he would've picked it up again, he did - as you know - for an electronic publishing in installments on his website.
Christine
Donald M. Grant, 1983

The lady of every carfreak's nightmare was issued in 1,000 numbered copies and 26 lettered ones by the one and only Donald M. Grant Publishing. Nice cover by Stephan Gervais, notice how the hood is divided by a skeleton on the spine of the book.

Dustjacket
Cycle of the Werewolf
Land of Enchantment, 1983

This book, nicely illustrated by the stunning Berni Wrightson (yes, the same dude who did Creepshow, the art in The Stand ltd and who will do the illustrations for both The Dark Tower 5 and From a Buick 8) exist in 350 numbered copies, and a trade edition of 7,500 copies.
